DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed an urgent letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his personal intervention to implement state-specific Other Backward Classes reservations in medical admissions surrendered to the All India Quota during the 2020-2021 academic year. Stalin stressed that the Madras High Court had unequivocally upheld the constitutional validity of providing fifty percent OBC reservation in state-contributed medical seats. He pointed out that prolonged administrative delays by the Union health ministry and central admission authorities threatened to unlawfully deprive thousands of backward class students of their rightful seats.
Stalin called upon all political parties, regardless of ideological differences, to unite in safeguarding the constitutional rights of socially and educationally backward communities. He noted that the DMK had spearheaded the historic legal struggle before the Madras High Court and Supreme Court, demonstrating unwavering dedication to affirmative action principles. Stalin emphasized that postponing the implementation of the court verdict under procedural pretexts amounted to a grave injustice against deserving OBC aspirants.
Stalin urged the Prime Minister to issue immediate directives to the Directorate General of Health Services to enforce OBC reservations in current admission counseling rounds.
