DMK president M.K. Stalin stated that DMK Members of Parliament submitted a formal memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to advise Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit to immediately grant assent to the 7.5 percent reservation bill for government school pupils. Stalin condemned Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for exhibiting timid subservience and refusing to exert constitutional pressure on the Raj Bhavan, accusing the ruling AIADMK of sacrificing the legitimate aspirations of rural medical aspirants to safeguard their political survival.
Stalin emphasized that the legislation had been passed unanimously by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly with bipartisan support, reflecting the unified will of seven crore citizens of the state. He argued that the Governor's prolonged dithering over a welfare bill violated established constitutional norms, creating immense panic among qualifying students as nationwide medical counseling schedules were being finalized. Stalin noted that timely executive intervention was essential to prevent underprivileged candidates from being shut out of admissions.
Stalin reiterated that the DMK will explore every constitutional, parliamentary, and public avenue to protect social justice in medical education. He demanded that the Union government immediately instruct the Governor to sign the unanimous legislative enactment.
