Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded immediate government intervention to resolve critical infrastructure deficits and resume stalled online instructional classes across newly established government arts and science colleges. Pointing out that several colleges were opened hurriedly as mere electoral announcements without classrooms, laboratories, computer facilities, or appointed teaching faculty, Stalin questioned how enrolled students could reasonably be expected to appear for university examinations. He emphasized that students from underprivileged backgrounds depend entirely on functional state institutions for their higher education.

Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for treating higher education as a political publicity exercise while ignoring the practical requirements of students and faculty. He pointed out that digital divide issues, lack of smartphones or internet connectivity, and total absence of scheduled digital lectures had left thousands of rural learners stranded for months. Stalin cautioned that playing with students' academic careers would have devastating long-term consequences on Tamil Nadu's human development rankings.

Stalin urged the state administration to immediately recruit qualified assistant professors, equip colleges with high-speed digital infrastructure, and provide free electronic devices to economically disadvantaged scholars to ensure educational continuity.
