DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the Union government's arbitrary composition of the Madurai All India Institute of Medical Sciences governing board, which completely excluded elected Members of Parliament from southern Tamil Nadu while inducting an ABVP functionary accused of harassing an elderly woman. Terming the appointment an insult to public decency and regional representation, Stalin questioned whether promoting controversial political figures reflects the ideological priorities of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. He emphasized that an apex medical institution meant to serve southern districts requires upright leadership.

Stalin urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to immediately register a strong formal protest with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding the cancellation of Subbiah Shanmugam's nomination and the induction of regional parliamentary representatives into the board. He pointed out that the AIIMS Madurai project had already suffered intolerable delays, with no physical hospital construction commenced years after the foundation stone laying ceremony. Excluding local democratic stakeholders from the institute's apex board further undermined regional accountability and transparency.

Stalin affirmed that the DMK will consistently oppose the politicization of premier medical institutions and champion the legitimate developmental aspirations of southern Tamil Nadu.
