DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed the Governor's assent to the 7.5 percent preferential reservation bill for government school students in undergraduate medical admissions, attributing the breakthrough to sustained DMK agitations and judicial appeals to conscience. The approval came after a frustrating forty-five-day gubernatorial delay as admission counseling deadlines approached rapidly. Stalin thanked Governor Banwarilal Purohit for finally clearing the pending legislation, noting that without relentless public mobilization and opposition pressure outside the Raj Bhavan, underprivileged students would have lost their rightful opportunities for another academic year.
Stalin highlighted that the triumph demonstrated the enduring potency of the social justice movement in Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that while the AIADMK ministry had shown administrative hesitation and reluctance to confront gubernatorial obstinacy, the DMK took to the streets and rallied civil society to defend rural students' aspirations. He emphasized that students from impoverished backgrounds studying in state schools deserve equal institutional access to enter prestigious medical colleges.
Stalin affirmed that social justice had ultimately prevailed and would always triumph over discriminatory barriers. He urged the health department to immediately commence counseling to ensure prompt admissions for deserving candidates.
