.@RajGovOfficial's decision to ban the sale of firecrackers is adding misery to the lives of millions of workers in the Fireworks industry who are already struggling for survival due to #COVID19.
To safeguard their livelihood, I urge @RajCMO to reconsider & revoke the ban. https://t.co/vyZLvQpoFZ

DMK president M.K. Stalin appealed to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to reconsider and revoke his administration's decision banning the sale and bursting of firecrackers ahead of the festive season. Writing in defense of the manufacturing sector, Stalin stressed that blanket bans cause severe economic distress to millions of laborers and small-scale industrialists in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar and Sivakasi belts, who produce over ninety percent of India's fireworks. He emphasized that the industry had already suffered acute financial losses from prolonged pandemic shutdowns.
Stalin pointed out that green cracker formulations developed under Supreme Court guidelines minimize emissions while preserving traditional artisan employment. He noted that thousands of rural families, particularly women and unorganized workers, depend entirely on seasonal cracker sales for annual subsistence. An abrupt market closure across northern states would precipitate bankruptcies, unsold inventories, and severe livelihood loss for vulnerable factory communities.
Stalin urged the Rajasthan government to balance environmental considerations with socioeconomic realities by permitting the sale of certified green fireworks. He reiterated the DMK's steadfast commitment to championing industrial survival and protecting manufacturing jobs across regional enterprise clusters.
