DMK president M.K. Stalin cautioned the Tamil Nadu government against hastily reopening schools for classes nine through twelve amid ongoing public health risks linked to the pandemic. He questioned why the state administration issued an abrupt reopening notification without reviewing medical research, contagion trends, or international epidemiological warnings. Stalin pointed out that rushing to resume classroom sessions without foolproof preventive protocols could jeopardize the health of pupils, educators, and support personnel across educational institutions.
Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for failing to consult parent-teacher associations, medical professionals, and child welfare experts before finalizing such a critical decision. He stressed that families remained deeply anxious about public transit safety, crowded classrooms, and sanitation infrastructure in government schools. Stalin proposed that the state government defer reopening decisions until January 2021, when officials could properly evaluate prevailing winter infections, test positivity rates, and institutional readiness across all districts.
Stalin emphasized that student safety and well-being must take absolute priority over administrative expediency. He urged the government to hold open consultations with all educational stakeholders to establish comprehensive hygiene standards and clear digital learning guidelines for children.
