DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound outrage over the tragic custodial death of Selvamurugan in Neyveli police custody, pointing out that before the blood of the Sathankulam custodial torture victims had even dried, another innocent life was brutally snuffed out under state custody. Stalin observed that the Tamil Nadu police department, operating under the direct charge of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, is drifting aimlessly without lawful orientation or moral leadership.
Stalin demanded that rather than resorting to customary cover-up attempts, administrative denials, and departmental shielding, the state government must institute an exhaustive, independent judicial investigation into Selvamurugan's custodial killing. He insisted that all police personnel and supervisory officers responsible for unlawful detention and lethal physical torture must be prosecuted under murder charges without hesitation. Stalin emphasized that custodial brutality has become alarmingly normalized under AIADMK rule, destroying public trust in law enforcement institutions.
Reaffirming the DMK's steadfast commitment to human rights and civil liberties, Stalin urged the state administration to provide substantial financial relief and government employment to the victim's grieving family, while guaranteeing complete legal accountability and institutional reform within the police force.
