DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded immediate action by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption against Law and Mines Minister C.V. Shanmugam for allegedly granting a lucrative stone quarry lease to the son of a ruling party MLA. Stalin characterized the move as yet another chapter of lawless governance where valuable state natural resources and public contracts are blatantly distributed to ministerial relatives and political cronies without adhering to statutory norms.
Comparing the alleged transaction to previous controversial tenders awarded by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani, Stalin noted that nepotism and institutional plunder have become systemic across AIADMK departments. He emphasized that mineral wealth belongs to the state exchequer and the public, and converting mining leases into private partisan patronage causes immense financial losses to the state treasury. Stalin urged anti-corruption authorities to register a formal case and initiate a thorough, impartial investigation.
Stalin asserted that the culture of unchecked impunity among ruling ministers would be systematically dismantled through legal accountability. He warned that all fraudulent allocations and corrupt transactions would face comprehensive judicial scrutiny under an incoming DMK government.
