DMK president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized the ruling AIADMK government over the catastrophic deterioration of the state public transport corporation, describing leaking bus roofs, substandard windscreens, and broken vehicles pushed by passengers as symbols of administrative collapse. Highlighting institutional instability, Stalin noted that the transport department had witnessed six different principal secretaries within a span of four years. He questioned how public mobility services could function effectively when administrative leadership was subjected to constant, politically motivated bureaucratic shuffling.
Stalin raised serious allegations of corruption regarding department procurements, questioning why a 25 crore rupee tender was arbitrarily inflated to 900 crore rupees without public justification. Demanding immediate accountability from Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar, Stalin noted that while ordinary commuters endure hazardous travel in poorly maintained buses, ruling party functionaries remain focused on inflated contracts and kickbacks. He stressed that neglected fleet maintenance severely endangers passenger safety and distresses hardworking transport corporation employees facing delayed wage settlements.
Calling for an independent investigation into transport department finances, Stalin affirmed that an incoming DMK administration would systematically modernize public bus fleets, eliminate corruption, and guarantee dignified public transit for all citizens.
