Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned Union government ministries for sending official replies in Hindi to communications written in English by Tamil Nadu Members of Parliament P. Wilson and Su. Venkatesan. Pointing out that English responses were issued only after sharp public condemnation and protests, Stalin characterized the repeated practice as a blatant violation of the Official Languages Act of 1963. He stated that such administrative conduct reflects chauvinistic Hindi dominance and deliberate disrespect toward non-Hindi-speaking states.

Stalin criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party administration for persistently seeking to impose Hindi across public institutions, postal communications, and federal administrative interactions. He emphasized that linguistic equality is an essential pillar of Indian federalism and that Members of Parliament representing sovereign regional electorates must not be subjected to language discrimination. Stalin warned that attempting to marginalize regional languages or undermine statutory safeguards governing official correspondence would face fierce resistance from the people of Tamil Nadu.

Demanding an immediate halt to linguistic hegemony, Stalin urged central authorities to uphold constitutional fairness and administrative neutrality. He reiterated that the DMK would vigorously defend state linguistic rights and federal principles at all forums.
