DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu government immediately disburse five thousand rupees as direct interim cash assistance to every family suffering losses from Cyclone Nivar. Stalin strongly criticized the ruling AIADMK administration for failing to learn vital lessons from the catastrophic 2015 Chennai floods, pointing out that critical Comptroller and Auditor General audit warnings and binding High Court directives on urban drainage had been completely ignored. He stated that bureaucratic complacency and lack of pre-monsoon storm drain desilting turned standard rainfall into widespread urban misery.
Stalin highlighted the acute distress endured by daily-wage laborers, street vendors, small shop owners, and suburban residents whose dwellings suffered extensive flooding. He asserted that when state administrative failure directly compounds natural calamity damage, the government bears an inescapable responsibility to provide immediate financial relief. Stalin urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to bypass cumbersome bureaucratic verification procedures and credit cash assistance directly into the bank accounts of affected households.
Civic organizations and resident associations supported Stalin's demand for immediate monetary assistance. Stalin affirmed the DMK's resolve to demand structural accountability in urban flood mitigation.
