DMK president M.K. Stalin met with agitating student representatives from Chidambaram Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Erode IRT Medical College, extending the party's full solidarity against exorbitant tuition fees. Stalin highlighted the shocking fee disparity confronting enrolled students, pointing out that while standard government medical colleges charge an annual tuition fee of 13,670 rupees, Rajah Muthiah demands 5.44 lakh rupees and IRT Medical College levies 3.85 lakh rupees. He criticized the AIADMK administration for maintaining this blatant injustice even after taking over administrative control of both institutions.
Stalin asserted that students from modest economic backgrounds who secured admission on merit cannot be forced into massive debt burdens by a government-run institution. He urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to immediately rationalize the fee structure on par with other state government medical colleges without placing impossible financial barriers before hardworking youth. Stalin assured the student delegations that the DMK would champion their cause inside and outside the legislature until equitable fee parity is established across all state-managed institutions.
The students expressed deep gratitude for Stalin's prompt intervention. Stalin reaffirmed that affordable, high-quality medical education remains an essential right.
