DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the Union government's directive introducing a daily Sanskrit news bulletin on Doordarshan's Tamil regional channel, DD Podhigai, characterizing the decision as a brazen cultural assault on Tamil identity. Stalin questioned why a language no longer spoken in everyday public communication was being artificially forced upon Tamil television viewers, arguing that the central move acts as an axe severing national integration and linguistic fraternity. He warned central authorities that persisting with covert linguistic chauvinism would shatter the political arrogance and bureaucratic complacency of the ruling establishment.
Stalin demanded the immediate withdrawal of the contentious broadcast order, reiterating that regional television networks established to serve local linguistic populations must respect regional heritage rather than serve as vehicles for ideological indoctrination. He pointed out that while classical Tamil language institutions suffer from neglect and financial underfunding, the central government disproportionately expends public revenue promoting Sanskrit. Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu has historically resisted cultural subjugation and will never tolerate disguised linguistic imposition.
The protest drew strong solidarity from Tamil scholars, political parties, and civil rights groups. Stalin reaffirmed the DMK's uncompromising defense of linguistic equality.
