DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded an immediate investigation by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption into arbitrary regulations enforced by the state transport department requiring commercial vehicles seeking fitness certificates to purchase equipment exclusively from designated private firms. Stalin criticized Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar for reducing Regional Transport Offices into collection centers for private syndicates, questioning why government departments should subserviently mandate products from select companies simply to generate illicit commissions. He noted that commercial vehicle operators, lorry owners, and auto drivers face severe financial exploitation under this questionable certification system.
Stalin highlighted that transport workers and fleet operators across Tamil Nadu are already enduring severe economic distress following pandemic restrictions and exorbitant fuel tax hikes. Imposing mandatory purchase clauses from monopolistic private vendors as a prerequisite for statutory fitness clearances adds an intolerable burden on small transport entrepreneurs. Stalin demanded that the government revoke these arbitrary procurement orders immediately and restore transparent, standardized inspection procedures conducted directly by departmental technical officers.
Commercial vehicle federations welcomed Stalin's vocal intervention against departmental corruption. Stalin reiterated that the DMK will hold corrupt officials and ministers accountable.
