DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a strongly worded statement condemning the Union government's unilateral proposal to subsume the autonomous Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai under the newly conceptualized Bharatiya Bhasha Vishwavidyalaya. Stalin argued that the move constitutes a calculated assault on Tamil linguistic autonomy and cultural heritage, especially when the Union administration spends hundreds of crores on promoting Sanskrit while systematically starving classical Tamil research institutions of budgetary funds. He recalled that the institute was established as an independent research body through the dedicated efforts of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
Stalin urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to shed his habitual silence on sensitive state issues and register strong, immediate opposition with the central government. He emphasized that merging an internationally recognized classical language research center into an umbrella entity dilutes its academic stature, research independence, and linguistic focus. Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu will not tolerate administrative maneuvers that subordinate Tamil scholarship to centralizing linguistic agendas.
Scholars, linguistic researchers, and Tamil enthusiasts across the world endorsed Stalin's defense of CICT's autonomy. Stalin reiterated the DMK's resolve to safeguard classical Tamil heritage.
