DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a joint appeal on behalf of the Secular Progressive Alliance, calling upon the people of Tamil Nadu, agricultural labor unions, trader associations, and transport syndicates to make the December 8 nationwide Bharat Bandh a resounding success. The general strike, convened by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, aimed to mount decisive democratic pressure on the Union government to withdraw three contentious agricultural reform enactments. Stalin highlighted that Tamil Nadu's collective voice must resonate powerfully across the country in firm support of protesting farmers.
Stalin emphasized that the agrarian legislation enacted by the central government threatens public food distribution, eliminates guaranteed floor prices, and hands agricultural supply chains over to unregulated corporate entities. He commended the tireless resilience of peasant organizations demonstrating on Delhi's highways and urged Tamil Nadu's working classes to stand united behind their cause. Stalin stated that rural self-reliance and farmers' economic autonomy are integral to democratic federalism.
The all-party declaration received immediate endorsement from various labor federations and merchant confederations across Tamil Nadu. Stalin reaffirmed the alliance's determination to fight agrarian deregulation through continuous democratic mobilization.
