DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded an explanation from Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding the prolonged eight-month delay in obtaining Governor Banwarilal Purohit's assent for the legislative amendment guaranteeing 20 percent reservation in state government employment for persons who studied through Tamil-medium instruction. Stalin recalled that the landmark reservation enactment originally introduced by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had been amended unanimously by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to ensure that exclusive benefits reach students who completed their entire schooling through Tamil. He condemned the ruling AIADMK for failing to pursue gubernatorial ratification actively.
Stalin questioned why the state administration remained completely passive while the careers of thousands of rural youth and Tamil-educated graduates hung in the balance. He asked whether the opposition DMK would once again have to launch statewide public agitations to compel the government to implement its own passed legislation. Stalin underscored that preserving linguistic rights and providing employment priority to vernacular students constitute core principles of social justice that cannot be compromised by bureaucratic negligence.
The statement intensified pressure on Raj Bhavan and the state secretariat. Stalin affirmed that DMK will relentlessly protect Tamil-medium youth.
