DMK president M.K. Stalin extended resolute backing to the nationwide Bharat Bandh organized by peasant collectives under the Stand With Farmers campaign, demanding the total repeal of three contentious central farm laws. Invoking the classical Thirukkural maxim that agriculture forms the foremost pillar of human society, Stalin lamented that the agrarian sector itself is being destabilized by market-driven central legislation. He argued that the newly enacted laws commodify peasant lives, dismantle traditional procurement safeguards, and systematically leave cultivating communities vulnerable to aggressive corporate monopolization.
Stalin underscored that farming represents not merely a commercial occupation but the foundational right and sustenance of every citizen across the country. He commended the resolute determination of protesting cultivators who braved freezing winter conditions on the borders of New Delhi to defend agrarian sovereignty. Stalin declared that Tamil Nadu stands in complete solidarity with farming families nationwide, urging democratic groups, labor unions, and civil society to participate actively in peaceful general strikes.
The bandh witnessed extensive commercial closures and solidarity demonstrations across Tamil Nadu districts. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will resist agrarian deregulation until corporate-friendly laws are dismantled permanently.
