DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed deep shock over the Supreme Court verdict granting clearance to continue the controversial Chennai-Salem eight-lane greenfield expressway project. Stalin criticized the ruling AIADMK government for failing to represent agrarian interests effectively during judicial proceedings, pointing out that state authorities offered no substantive defense of farmer livelihoods while the Union government aggressively argued in favor of executing the highway alignment. He noted that thousands of smallholder cultivators in Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, and Kancheepuram districts face severe distress over impending loss of fertile agricultural lands and homesteads.

Stalin demanded that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami make an unequivocal public declaration abandoning land acquisition for the expressway corridor.
