DMK president M.K. Stalin paid glowing tributes to national poet Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyar on his birth anniversary, celebrating his revolutionary verses that awakened patriotism, social egalitarianism, and cultural pride across Tamil Nadu. Stalin recalled that past DMK administrations under Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had taken historic measures to immortalize Bharathiyar's legacy, including nationalizing his residence as a state memorial and erecting prominent statues across Chennai. He emphasized that the Dravidian movement has always revered Bharathiyar's uncompromising championing of women's liberation, caste eradication, and democratic freedom.
Reflecting on contemporary national challenges, Stalin quoted Bharathiyar's celebrated line questioning when the craving for servitude would end, observing that the verse accurately reflects the present socio-political climate under authoritarian central rule and submissive state governance. He urged citizens to draw renewed inspiration from the poet's defiant spirit to resist constitutional erosion, religious chauvinism, and oppressive socio-economic policies that diminish popular rights.
The commemorative tribute resonated widely among Tamil scholars, cultural forums, and youth organizations across the state. Stalin affirmed that Bharathiyar's fiery vision for an enlightened, self-respecting, and casteless society remains a guiding light.
