DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the operation of eight toll plazas within the Greater Chennai Corporation limits in violation of established national highway regulations. Supporting a large-scale demonstration organized by Chennai South district secretary Ma. Subramanian under the banner Dont Want Tollgate, Stalin stated that the massive public turnout reflected widespread public outrage against administrative extortion and unchecked user fees. He stressed that collecting tolls from urban commuters traveling within municipal limits imposes an unjust economic burden on daily workers, traders, and motorists.
Stalin accused the AIADMK government of colluding with private concessionaires and remaining indifferent to commuter grievances despite clear regulatory norms prohibiting tollgates within municipal borders. He affirmed that the DMK cadre and civic residents would sustain continuous democratic agitations across the metropolitan area until every unauthorized toll booth is dismantled permanently. Stalin pointed out that toll collections severely increase transportation costs for essential commodities and distress everyday urban livelihoods.
The protest drew active participation from transport unions, civic associations, and local merchants across South Chennai. Stalin reiterated that public interest must prevail over private corporate profiteering on state road networks.
