DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed deep grief and shock over the tragic deaths of local municipal councillor Anandaraj and his young son, who were fatally attacked by a wild elephant in Gudalur within the Nilgiris district. Stalin pointed out that ten innocent lives had been lost in Gudalur alone due to recurring wild elephant incursions, exposing severe administrative lethargy and inadequate wildlife management protocols under the AIADMK government. He highlighted that local DMK units had organized protest demonstrations demanding urgent state intervention to protect vulnerable plantation workers and forest fringe communities.
Stalin called upon the state government to immediately sanction a compassionate financial compensation of twenty-five lakh rupees each to the bereaved families. He urged forest authorities to implement scientifically sound mitigation measures, including installing modern solar fencing, clearing overgrown elephant corridors, deploying rapid response teams, and creating early warning communication networks. Stalin affirmed that balanced ecological governance requires safeguarding precious wildlife while guaranteeing the physical safety, livelihood security, and dignity of hill residents.
The statement drew widespread endorsement from plantation labor unions and Nilgiris community federations. Stalin pledged that a future DMK government will implement comprehensive human-wildlife coexistence policies backed by adequate budgetary resources.
