DMK president M.K. Stalin led a day-long solidarity hunger strike in Chennai, joined by senior leaders and elected representatives of the Secular Progressive Alliance, in steadfast support of farmers demonstrating across India against three contentious central farm laws. Stalin declared that the peaceful demonstration reflected the collective outrage of Tamil Nadu against central agricultural policies enacted without democratic consultation. He affirmed that the opposition alliance stands resolutely with hundreds of thousands of peasant families enduring freezing weather conditions on New Delhi borders.
Addressing participants at the fasting venue, Stalin emphasized that the controversial enactments threaten the food security of the nation by dismantling statutory agricultural market committees, undermining price assurance mechanisms, and facilitating corporate hoarding of essential commodities. He stressed that democratic opposition will persist relentlessly across Tamil Nadu and the nation until the Union government repeals the disputed legislations in Parliament. Stalin commended the courageous perseverance of farmer organizations, affirming that peasant solidarity will ultimately prevail over executive stubbornness.
The large-scale hunger strike drew extensive participation from agricultural federations, civil society groups, and trade unions. Stalin reaffirmed the DMK unwavering dedication to defending agricultural livelihoods and protecting federal agrarian rights.
