DMK president M.K. Stalin stated that while the distribution of 2,500 rupees in cash assistance as part of the Pongal festival gift package was a welcome relief for struggling families, the involvement of ruling party cadres in handling state treasury funds was deeply improper. Stalin pointed out that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had failed to provide adequate economic relief during severe distress caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and devastating impact of Cyclone Nivar, leaving millions of vulnerable working-class households in acute economic penury.
Stalin questioned why AIADMK party functionaries were permitted to handle public exchequer funds and distribute welfare tokens carrying partisan images. He stressed that taxpayer-funded government relief must never be appropriated for partisan electoral advantage. Allowing political workers to interfere in official distribution undermines public trust and violates statutory election standards.
Stalin demanded that the state government immediately prohibit all ruling party cadres from participating in the disbursement process. He insisted that the cash assistance and festival hampers must be distributed solely through regular Fair Price Shop employees, ensuring orderly, non-partisan delivery to every eligible ration cardholder.
