DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a passionate condemnation following the overnight demolition of the Mullivaikkal memorial monument on the campus of the University of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. Stalin characterized the destruction of the monument as a calculated assault on the collective memory and emotional heritage of Eelam Tamils. He emphasized that the monument stood as a solemn tribute to thousands of innocent Tamil civilians who perished during the final phase of the Sri Lankan civil conflict in 2009.
Stalin observed that the demolition formed part of a systematic campaign by Sri Lankan authorities to erase Tamil cultural identity and suppress legitimate expressions of grief and remembrance. He stressed that preserving memorials of wartime suffering is recognized globally as a fundamental human right essential for historical truth and genuine inter-community reconciliation.
Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government to register an unequivocal diplomatic protest against this shocking incident. He emphasized that Tamils worldwide expect India to defend the cultural dignity and democratic rights of Eelam Tamils on international forums rather than remaining passive spectators to systematic cultural desecration.
