DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly opposed the contentious Kattupalli Port expansion project proposed by the Adani Group, questioning why the AIADMK state government and the BJP central government were colluding to facilitate an ecologically disastrous commercial venture. Stalin highlighted that the mega port development threatens the direct livelihoods of more than one lakh artisanal fishermen, exposes thirty-five lakh residents of Chennai and Tiruvallur to catastrophic flooding, and risks permanently wiping out fragile wetland ecosystems in the historic Pulicat Lake.
Stalin warned that dredging, extensive land reclamation, and coastal erosion caused by the port would decimate marine biodiversity and eliminate natural shoreline barriers that protect northern coastal settlements from devastating sea surges and cyclonic storms. He condemned the ruling AIADMK regime for prioritizing corporate greed over the constitutional rights, environmental safety, and economic security of coastal working people across northern Tamil Nadu.
Championing the grassroots public agitation under the banner Stop Adani Save Pulicat, Stalin demanded the immediate cancellation of public hearings and environmental clearances for the port. He pledged that a DMK government will vigilantly safeguard coastal ecosystems and protect fishermen habitats from commercial exploitation.
