DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed deep grief and outrage over the brutal killing of four Tamil Nadu fishermen whose motorized fishing boat was rammed and sunk by the Sri Lankan Navy near Katchatheevu. Stalin condemned the repeated lethal assaults against unarmed Indian fishermen operating in traditional waters in the Palk Strait as an unconscionable violation of human rights and international maritime conventions. He criticized the central government for maintaining passive diplomatic silence while innocent fishers are murdered with impunity.

Stalin questioned External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar over whether the safety and fishing rights of Tamil fishers were raised forcefully during his recent official diplomatic visit to Sri Lanka. He called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lodge an unequivocal diplomatic protest with the Colombo administration and insist on payment of five crore rupees in financial compensation for each bereaved fisherman family from the Sri Lankan government.

Stalin emphasized that the Union government must demonstrate firm political will to protect Tamil fishermen. He reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently fight to secure traditional fishing rights, retrieve Katchatheevu, and guarantee permanent maritime safety.
