DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a massive commemorative public gathering at Tiruvottiyur to pay respectful homage to the historic martyrs of the anti-Hindi agitations. Stalin recalled the extraordinary sacrifice of students, youth, and Dravidian movement cadres who willingly embraced martyrdom in 1965 to protect the mother tongue from coercive central imposition. He stated that the struggle was not merely linguistic, but a battle to preserve regional identity, social self-respect, and federal democracy.
Stalin emphasized that the contemporary political environment demands equal vigilance against subtle and overt efforts by the Union government to enforce cultural homogeneity through the National Education Policy. He asserted that Tamil Nadu has consistently rejected linguistic hegemony, maintaining that all Indian languages recognized in the Eighth Schedule deserve equal constitutional dignity and operational support in central institutions.
The memorial gathering drew thousands of party cadres, writers, and youth activists dedicated to linguistic rights and regional self-respect. Stalin pledged that the DMK will unyieldingly defend Tamil linguistic heritage and state rights against all forms of central cultural imposition, preserving the egalitarian legacy forged by historic Dravidian forebears for future generations.
