DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for imposing arbitrary administrative bans on local Grama Sabha meetings while conducting extensive official campaign tours across Tamil Nadu. Stalin questioned why the state government displayed such persistent hostility toward democratic participatory forums in rural panchayats. He pointed out that local communities use Grama Sabhas to demand civic accountability, transparent public spending, and fair delivery of essential local welfare services.
Stalin alleged that the ruling regime feared public exposure regarding widespread financial irregularities and procurement corruption involving senior cabinet ministers. He emphasized that the AIADMK administration was deeply unsettled by the overwhelming presence of DMK-affiliated representatives in local bodies, who exposed institutional lapses and administrative failures. Stalin declared that authoritarian prohibitions against village assemblies reveal a regime losing its grip on democratic legitimacy and grassroots moral authority across the state.
Stalin affirmed that administrative restrictions will only endure until the forthcoming assembly elections in May. He asserted that the ballot box will sweep away ten years of autocratic governance and restore autonomous, vibrant democratic grassroots institutions across rural Tamil Nadu without delay.
