DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the cancellation of admissions for M.Tech Biotechnology and Computational Biology postgraduate courses at Anna University, holding the Union BJP government and the subservient state AIADMK administration jointly responsible. Stalin pointed out that the central government had created arbitrary hurdles against implementing Tamil Nadu statutory 69 percent reservation policy for these programs. Rather than standing firm to protect state reservation rights, the AIADMK regime chose to surrender by abruptly cancelling the entire student admission process.
Stalin demanded that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami take immediate executive action to conduct admissions for the current academic year strictly adhering to the 69 percent reservation quota. He stressed that Tamil Nadu hard-won affirmative action framework, protected under the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, cannot be diluted or abandoned at the whims of central authorities. Stalin noted that depriving qualified backward class and marginalized students of prestigious biotechnology seats sets a dangerous precedent that threatens state educational rights.
The intervention galvanized students, educators, and social justice organizations across Tamil Nadu. Stalin reaffirmed the DMK unwavering resolve to safeguard the 69 percent reservation policy against any central dilution.
