DMK president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized the Union Budget 2021 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, describing it as an optical illusion designed merely to entice voters ahead of state assembly elections. Stalin pointed out that the central government had neglected Tamil Nadu developmental needs and disaster relief allocations for six continuous years, only to announce superficial mega-infrastructure outlays when confronted with an election cycle. He noted that crucial state requests for cyclone recovery grants and flood assistance had been completely bypassed.
Stalin condemned the central budget for rigidly insisting on the controversial Chennai-Salem eight-lane greenfield expressway project despite intense opposition from thousands of agricultural families and environmental activists across the region. He characterized the budget as a political lollipop distributed to pacify citizens while failing to allocate essential funding for public health, agrarian distress, or urban employment generation. Stalin noted that Tamil Nadu citizens see through pre-election financial gimmicks orchestrated by central leaders.
The comprehensive critique exposed the widening gap between central fiscal promises and state realities. Stalin reaffirmed the DMK unwavering resolve to defend state fiscal autonomy, support struggling farmers, and protect vulnerable agrarian lands.
