DMK president M.K. Stalin contrasted the open, principled stance of the DMK with the secretive political posturing of the AIADMK regarding the release of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Stalin noted that the DMK had consistently supported the state cabinet resolution, urged the Governor to grant approval, condemned the prolonged delay, and openly boycotted the Governor legislative address in protest. He emphasized that the DMK approached the issue with complete public transparency and steadfast commitment to human rights.

In sharp contrast, Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for meeting the Governor behind closed doors for undisclosed reasons and later claiming to have discussed the prisoners release. Stalin asked the public to judge which side was engaging in cynical political theatrics and which side was fighting sincerely for state rights and humanitarian justice. He pointed out that the AIADMK administration had repeatedly compromised state legislative decisions to protect its political survival.
