DMK president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized both the Union and state governments over relentless escalations in petrol, diesel, and cooking gas prices. Stalin highlighted the acute economic distress experienced by working mothers, autorickshaw operators, small transport businesses, and middle-class households who struggled under the crushing financial weight of daily inflation. He also condemned the central coercive enforcement of FASTag toll mandates on motorists, pointing out that the AIADMK administration maintained callous indifference toward public suffering.
Stalin declared that the DMK would organize massive public demonstrations across all district headquarters in Tamil Nadu on February 22, 2021, to register strong democratic opposition against punitive fuel taxation. He argued that the central government had extracted enormous revenues through excessive excise levies while global oil rates remained moderate. Stalin demanded that both Union and state administrations slash fuel taxes immediately to deliver tangible cost-of-living relief to ordinary families.
The call for coordinated statewide agitation received prompt endorsement from trade unions, transport federations, and secular alliance partners across the state. Stalin emphasized that mass democratic mobilization remained essential to protect citizens economic rights and family welfare.
