DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized the AIADMK administration for belatedly announcing the withdrawal of criminal cases registered against citizens during Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns. Stalin recalled that he had repeatedly highlighted the hardship caused by indiscriminate police cases filed against ordinary motorists, migrant laborers, and small vendors, urging the government as early as January to revoke the charges unconditionally. He accused Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami of ignoring public appeals for months, only to announce a withdrawal right before assembly elections to seek political advantage.
Describing the pre-poll gesture as crocodile tears, Stalin emphasized that tens of thousands of young students and job seekers faced ongoing difficulties obtaining police verification certificates due to pending lockdown complaints. He demanded that the state government move beyond mere rhetorical announcements by issuing formal government orders and coordinating with judicial magistrates to quash all registered cases without delay. Stalin noted that citizens saw through cynical political maneuvers orchestrated purely for electoral survival.
The DMK leadership reaffirmed its support for working families penalized under emergency restrictions. Stalin pledged that compassionate administrative oversight would replace heavy-handed police actions once in office.
