DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a scathing condemnation on February 24, 2021, regarding the state government brazen protection of high-ranking police officers facing grave sexual harassment allegations. Stalin specifically questioned why Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had failed to take immediate punitive measures against a Special Director General of Police accused of sexually harassing a woman Superintendent of Police. He recalled that the regime had previously shielded Inspector General Murugan in a similar case and systematically protected ruling party functionaries in the horrific Pollachi sexual abuse scandal.
Stalin criticized the administration for spending crores of rupees of public money on self-congratulatory advertisements proclaiming Tamil Nadu as a safe state for women while actively subverting institutional justice for victims. He argued that shielding powerful perpetrators of sexual harassment degraded the morale of the entire police force and shattered public confidence in the rule of law. Stalin demanded the immediate suspension and arrest of the accused officer, warning that the incoming DMK administration would hold every complicit official accountable.
Stalin powerful condemnation drew widespread support from women rights organizations and civil society activists. His steadfast advocacy underscored the DMK commitment to women safety, administrative justice, and institutional accountability across Tamil Nadu.
