DMK president M.K. Stalin intervened on February 27, 2021, regarding the statewide strike launched by nine major transport trade unions, including the Labor Progressive Federation. Stalin sharply questioned why Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and his cabinet were behaving with stubborn arrogance instead of inviting union representatives for meaningful tripartite wage negotiations. He pointed out that transport corporation employees were demanding legitimate wage revisions, settlement of retired workers terminal benefits, and clearance of statutory provident fund dues misappropriated by the state government.
Stalin expressed deep concern over the severe travel inconveniences endured by the general public, commuters, and daily wage earners due to the transport shutdown. He appealed to the striking transport workers to consider the hardships faced by ordinary citizens and temporarily suspend their agitation, assuring them of the DMK unwavering solidarity. Stalin pledged that immediately upon assuming office, the incoming DMK government would implement wage settlements and clear all legitimate dues without delay.
The balanced intervention resonated with both commuting citizens and transport employees. Stalin constructive leadership demonstrated sensitivity to public convenience while standing firmly behind the fundamental rights of state transport workers.
