Marking National Safety Day on March 4, 2021, DMK president M.K. Stalin urged state authorities to implement stringent workplace safety standards and safeguard the livelihoods of industrial laborers across Tamil Nadu. Stalin highlighted repeated fatal accidents in fireworks factories, industrial explosions, and sudden manufacturing closures that left thousands of working-class families in acute financial distress. He noted that working men and women form the vital backbone of economic growth and national progress, emphasizing that their physical well-being must never be compromised for corporate convenience or regulatory apathy.
Stalin criticized the state administration for lax safety inspections, delayed compensation disbursements, and indifferent monitoring of hazardous manufacturing units in industrial clusters like Virudhunagar and Ranipet. He pledged that an incoming DMK government would enforce strict regulatory compliance, upgrade occupational healthcare, provide comprehensive insurance coverage, and guarantee fair rehabilitation packages for affected industrial workers. Stalin affirmed that the DMK movement would always stand as a steadfast ally of the working class.
Trade unions and industrial safety advocates commended Stalin timely intervention. His call underscored the necessity of robust labor safeguards, prioritizing human dignity alongside industrial expansion.
