DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the intimidation and death threats directed at a woman Superintendent of Police who lodged a formal sexual harassment complaint against a senior police officer in Tamil Nadu. Expressing profound indignation on March 5, 2021, Stalin questioned why Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and his administration were shielding the accused officer instead of taking immediate punitive action. He noted that the victim vehicle was intercepted by subordinate police personnel to obstruct her complaint, exposing grave institutional breakdown.
Stalin warned that if a high-ranking woman police officer faced threats and administrative obstruction while seeking justice, ordinary women in Tamil Nadu could expect no safety under the incumbent regime. He asserted that the state government claims regarding law and order were entirely hollow. Stalin demanded that the Election Commission of India intervene directly to ensure an impartial probe, suspend implicated officials, and guarantee comprehensive security for the complainant without bureaucratic delay.
Women rights groups, civil society organizations, and legal experts echoed Stalin uncompromising stance. His prompt intervention brought urgent scrutiny to senior administrative complicity, demanding institutional integrity and accountability across the state.
