Standing firmly in defense of organized labour and public financial assets, DMK president M.K. Stalin announced total party support on March 13, 2021, for the nationwide strike organized by bank trade unions on March 15 and 16. Stalin strongly condemned the Union government policy of privatizing public sector banks and outsourcing crucial sovereign responsibilities, such as pension disbursement and treasury operations, to private banking corporations. He warned that dismantling public sector banking threatened the financial security of retired citizens, small depositors, and rural borrowers.
Stalin highlighted that public sector banks had played a foundational role in national economic independence, rural poverty alleviation, priority agricultural lending, and educational financing for students. He argued that transferring these institutions to private conglomerates would compromise social banking priorities and endanger employee job security, reservation quotas, and retirement benefits. Stalin called upon all democratic forces to resist the liquidation of national assets and demanded an immediate halt to privatization policies.
The solidarity declaration was warmly welcomed by bank employee unions, pensioner associations, and central trade federations across India. Stalin principled stance reaffirmed his resolute commitment to protecting public sector workers, public assets, and equitable financial access for all citizens.
