Addressing one of the most burdensome economic pressures confronting ordinary citizens, DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a passionate appeal on April 4, 2021, urging Tamil Nadu voters to elect the Secular Progressive Alliance to establish an administration committed to reining in exorbitant fuel prices. Stalin pointed out that continuous, steep excise duty hikes imposed by the Union BJP government, combined with passive compliance by the state AIADMK regime, had driven petrol and diesel rates to unprecedented heights, crippling vehicle owners and inflating the cost of essential commodities.
Stalin highlighted the DMK concrete manifesto pledge to provide immediate, tangible relief to the public by reducing state value-added tax on petrol by five rupees per liter and diesel by four rupees per liter upon assuming office. He explained that lowering transportation fuel rates would directly ease operational costs for transport operators, small traders, auto-rickshaw drivers, and delivery workers while restraining inflationary pressure across the broader regional economy, benefiting every household in the state.
Stalin practical economic intervention highlighted his empathetic alignment with ordinary working households. By prioritizing fuel price moderation, his leadership offered decisive financial relief, enhanced purchasing power, and responsible governance to millions struggling with soaring living expenses across Tamil Nadu.
