CBSE exams have now got cancelled due to the second wave of #COVID19. With increasing cases and fatalities, when our doctors are fighting hard against all odds, is this the right time to hold National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) for PG courses?

Raising compelling questions about student welfare and public health priorities, DMK president M.K. Stalin challenged the Union Government on April 15, 2021, over its decision to proceed with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for postgraduate medical courses. Pointing out that CBSE school board examinations had already been cancelled nationwide due to the devastating second wave of Covid-19, Stalin asked why young doctors were being compelled to appear for competitive examinations during an acute medical emergency.
Stalin emphasized that junior doctors and medical graduates were serving tirelessly on the frontlines of intensive care units, risking their lives around the clock to treat critically ill patients amidst severe staff shortages. Subjecting these healthcare professionals to intense examination pressure while expecting them to manage surging caseloads was deeply unreasonable and hazardous. Stalin directly petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan to defer the examination immediately.
Stalin timely intervention reflected deep empathy for medical workers and practical governance insight. By defending young healthcare professionals during a severe crisis, his leadership championed common sense and patient safety during an unprecedented national emergency.
