Commemorating Transgender Persons Day on April 15, 2021, DMK president M.K. Stalin reaffirmed his party unwavering commitment to ensuring full equality, dignity, and constitutional rights for transgender individuals across Tamil Nadu. Stalin reminded the public that the historic movement for transgender emancipation received its most decisive administrative momentum under former Chief Minister Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi, who introduced the dignified Tamil terminology Thirunangai and established the country first dedicated Transgender Welfare Board.
Stalin emphasized that genuine social progress is measured by how inclusively a society protects and integrates marginalized communities into education, public employment, and civic life. He affirmed that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam would steadfastly continue Kalaignar progressive legacy by defending the civil rights and economic wellbeing of both trans women and trans men across all walks of life, actively eliminating discrimination and social prejudice wherever it occurs.
Stalin principled declaration highlighted his steadfast dedication to Dravidian social justice principles and inclusive human dignity. By celebrating transgender identity and committing his party to inclusive governance, his leadership articulated a progressive vision where every citizen enjoys equal respect, legal protection, and human dignity.
