Issuing a sharp condemnation of the central government linguistic neglect, DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized the Union Ministry of Education on April 24, 2021, for failing to release a Tamil translation of the National Education Policy 2020. Stalin pointed out that while the policy document had been translated into several other scheduled languages, the deliberate exclusion of Tamil was a glaring insult to the linguistic self-respect and democratic rights of over eight crore Tamil-speaking citizens.

Beyond the linguistic slight, Stalin reiterated the DMK unyielding and principled opposition to the substantive contents of NEP 2020. He argued that the central policy systematically usurps the constitutional rights of state governments over school and higher education, imposes centralized entrance examinations, and creates structural barriers that disproportionately disadvantage rural, backward class, and underprivileged students.
