Stepping directly into the field within hours of assuming the office of Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin conducted an on-site inspection of the large-scale temporary Covid Care Centre being rapidly established at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam. Reviewing emergency civil works, electrical layouts, and pipeline installations, Stalin assessed preparations to operationalize an 800-bed clinical facility equipped with dedicated oxygen connections for moderately symptomatic patients.
The Chief Minister announced that the first phase of the facility, comprising 300 fully equipped oxygen beds, would commence patient admissions by May 10, with the remaining 500 beds coming online in rapid succession. Interacting with public works engineers, health department officials, and attending clinicians, Stalin directed teams to ensure flawless pipeline pressure, uncompromised infection control standards, and comfortable amenities for medical staff. He noted that establishing decentralized triage and intermediate oxygen care centers prevents government medical colleges from becoming overwhelmed during viral surges.
Stalin energetic field presence on his inaugural day sent an unmistakable signal of administrative focus and urgency. His direct oversight accelerated critical hospital capacity expansion, providing vital life-saving beds for distressed citizens across the Chennai metropolitan area.
