Fulfilling a cornerstone electoral commitment within days of assuming office, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the statewide disbursement of the first installment of the Covid-19 livelihood assistance scheme at the Secretariat. Under this major economic welfare initiative, more than 2.07 crore rice-drawing family ration cardholders across Tamil Nadu receive a total cash relief of four thousand rupees, disbursed in two equal monthly installments of two thousand rupees each.
Stalin personally handed over the initial two thousand rupees cash assistance to representative beneficiary families, marking the immediate rollout through fair price shops across all districts. Recognizing that strict pandemic lockdown restrictions severely disrupted daily wages, informal labor, and domestic household budgets, the Chief Minister prioritized immediate cash transfers during May to provide essential liquidity and economic sustenance to vulnerable families. Stalin instructed the civil supplies department to organize decentralized coupon-based distribution at ration outlets, strictly enforcing physical distancing to protect public health while disbursing relief.
Stalin rapid execution of welfare promises brought immense financial relief to underprivileged households. His decisive compassionate governance safeguarded vulnerable livelihoods, demonstrating exceptional administrative efficiency and deep empathy for everyday citizens during extreme hardship.
