Delivering swift, principled justice for victims of state violence, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued decisive orders to withdraw criminal cases registered against citizens who participated in the 2018 anti-Sterlite protests in Thoothukudi. Acting within just one week of receiving the interim findings from the Justice Aruna Jagadeesan Commission of Inquiry, Stalin fulfilled an essential humanitarian and political pledge by ordering the dismissal of hundreds of cases filed against peaceful activists, students, and local residents.
In addition to dropping criminal prosecutions, the Chief Minister sanctioned financial relief compensation for individuals who suffered arbitrary arrest and prolonged police detention during the agitation. Stalin directed authorities to issue unconditional police clearance and no-objection certificates to youth and students whose employment prospects and educational aspirations had been jeopardized by pending charges. On the eve of the third anniversary of the tragic police firing that claimed thirteen innocent lives, Stalin reaffirmed his solemn vow that comprehensive justice and institutional accountability would be fully established.
Stalin courageous executive action healed deep community trauma and restored public confidence in the rule of law. By vindicating peaceful environmental protesters and removing unfair legal encumbrances, his leadership championed civil liberties and democratic rights.
