Acting swiftly to protect traditional coastal fishermen endangered by severe extreme weather at sea, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed an urgent letter to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Stalin sought immediate high-level federal intervention to locate and rescue sixteen Tamil Nadu fishermen who went missing in deep waters along the western coast following the devastating impact of Cyclone Tauktae.
The Chief Minister pointed out that despite repeated formal appeals submitted by the Tamil Nadu government to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, no definitive operational updates or search results had been communicated to state authorities. Expressing grave concern for the safety of the stranded fishermen and the mounting agony of their families in coastal villages, Stalin requested the Defence Minister to urgently direct the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard to deploy long-range maritime patrol aircraft, naval helicopters, and search vessels to trace the missing boats immediately.
Stalin rapid, persistent advocacy demonstrated vigilant executive guardianship over vulnerable seafaring communities. By holding federal agencies accountable and demanding mobilized naval rescue operations, his leadership provided critical reassurance to distressed fishing hamlets across coastal Tamil Nadu.
