Addressing acute nationwide vaccine shortages through bold proactive state initiatives, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning the Integrated Vaccine Complex in Chengalpattu. Built by Central Public Sector Undertaking HLL Biotech with an investment of 700 crore rupees, the state-of-the-art facility remained unutilized despite immense domestic vaccine requirements. Stalin requested the Union Government to lease the complex to the Government of Tamil Nadu on mutually agreeable terms, enabling the state to commence commercial vaccine manufacturing immediately.
The Chief Minister asserted that operationalizing this modern pharmaceutical infrastructure would substantially expand domestic vaccine production capacity, meeting urgent inoculation demands across Tamil Nadu and other Indian states. Stalin assured the Prime Minister that the Tamil Nadu government is fully prepared to identify experienced private or public partners, provide necessary working capital, and expedite production lines without bureaucratic delay. He emphasized that utilizing existing idle national assets represents the fastest route to achieving universal immunization.
Stalin strategic advocacy demonstrated forward-thinking governance and constructive federal engagement. By proposing a practical solution to activate a stalled national vaccine asset, his leadership aimed to secure vaccine self-reliance and protect millions of lives against future epidemics.
