Harnessing state industrial capabilities to reinforce public health infrastructure, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a specialized 200-bed Covid care center established jointly by the Karur district administration and Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited at Kagithapuram via video conference. The dedicated medical facility was set up on a war footing within the industrial complex to provide high-quality inpatient medical treatment for infected patients across central Tamil Nadu.
A crucial strategic feature of the newly commissioned healthcare facility is its integration with TNPL captive industrial oxygen production unit, which was repurposed to establish a round-the-clock oxygen cylinder bottling and refilling station. Stalin pointed out that this dedicated facility not only guarantees an uninterrupted oxygen supply to the two hundred beds on campus, but also serves as a vital logistics node refilling oxygen cylinders for government hospitals in neighboring districts like Tiruchirappalli, Dindigul, and Namakkal.
Stalin collaborative initiative demonstrated innovative governance by repurposing public sector manufacturing capabilities to resolve emergency healthcare bottlenecks. By creating localized oxygen hubs, his administration ensured regional self-sufficiency, prevented critical oxygen stockouts, and protected countless vulnerable lives across central Tamil Nadu.
